Hey guys, I have a little EE who started hatching yesterday. She stoped right after zipping and the membrain became dis-colored. I have decided she needs help. I want to help her but I don't know who do do what I need to do. Pleas help me. If you need I'll post pics as we progress

thanks guys. 12 out of 42 have hatched so far. I'm prepared to see her dead in the shell that won't be a prob. Thanks again

The best thing to do is not help them out. There is usually a reason why the chick is unable to hatch. A lot of times when you help them out they just die later.

Just make a 'nest' out of a damp paper towel, to make sure she stays moist. The reason the membrane is discolored is because the egg got dried out. I really wouldn't do much else, because like tandersphoenix said, there is usually a reason behind it.

I have her in a wt paper towel "nest", Guys I've already debated this in my mind, consitering the pros and cons of helping her and have decided to help her. no changing my mind.

But, if you must try....

Get a cup of hot water (it will cool enough as you use it), some Q-Tips, and a warm, wet washcloth. Wash your hands with soap and water and rinse well.

Snatch the egg & chick out, and holding the egg carefully, dab water from the cup with the Q-Tip on the visible dry membrane. Pick at the edges of the shell to lift off just tiny shards, working outward from the hole.

If you encounter any blood, or veins in the membrane, STOP and put the egg back in the 'bator. If not, pick small bits of the shell away and continue to dab water on the dry membrane as you expose it. Wet it well, but not drippy. If you can, tear the membrane a little bit to give the chick more wiggle room, but not a lot.

The idea is to release the membrane-covered chick from most of the shell, and wet the membrane so the chick can kick itself out on its own.

Put it back in the 'bator to do the rest of the job itself.

If she's already started hatching then I agree, help her out. I would break away the egg shell slowly. If she was hatching then the membrane should be blood vessel free. Just take your time with it and peel away bits slowly. Good luck.

She seems to be alive... I took a wet q-tip and dabbed the membrain with water.
