Hi all, I am hoping someone may have a good suggestion for me. I have a Jersey Giant rooster that is 2 months old. He is what we were calling a late bloomer; his feathers didn't start growing until he was a month old. At first we thought it was kind of comical for a few weeks, but all of a sudden his legs grew so fast that he couldn't hardly stand up. I thought at first he may have rickets and I started putting vitamin d and calcium in his water and I started giving him more protein in his food hoping he would pull out of it. I have been doing this for 2 1/2 weeks and there hasn't been any improvement. When he stands his legs cross and he is on his tippy toes. I was wondering if anyone has had this problems or has an idea on how to help our little guy?

Too much calcium can actually cause rickets because it inhibits phosphorus uptake. Here's some info on Rickets: http://www.thepoultrysite.com/diseaseinfo/124/rickets-hypophosphataemic
