I need to confess!

I really don't understand people who will eat store bought, but not their own fresh eggs... because they came out of a chicken butt...??!!

Where did you think store eggs come from? They grow in the carton?

:rofl
I used to cook my mom's button quail eggs, poached over coarse grated potatoes in a corning 'cook for one' frypan. With butter and pepper of course. My dear sister once thought it was 'gross' and dumped them in the sand on a camping trip.

I think she knows now what she missed.

Be prepared; once you eat yours, you won't be able to go back to most storebought or restaurant eggs.

Wow... You have no idea what you are missing! Try 'em scrambled with a tbsp of whole milk per egg and toss in some Lil' Caesar's spice pack. My toddler and I could have them 3 meals a day. Store bought eggs are junk! Pale, limp and sad!

My girls haven't started laying yet (they've been threatened with the axe if they don't start soon! lol), but I can't wait! We currently buy farm eggs from a lady a few miles from here, but her eggs are just like store bought because her chickens aren't free range and only get bagged food. The yolks are so pale in some of them, it's pitiful.

I can't wait to start getting eggs with those dark orange yolks, ones that actually have a TASTE!

My son and I did a comparison for his home schooling assignment. We compared one store bought egg with one of our fresh eggs - the experiment included a taste test. One thing that impressed me was the store bought egg slid easily in the non-stick skillet, whereas our fresh egg gripped the skillet and wouldn't slide smoothly. It was crazy! The store egg tasted rubbery and like nothing. Our egg had a great texture and substance. We will never go back to store bought now. Maybe start with using your eggs in stuff. Martha Stewart says farm fresh is the best for baking with. Then maybe use them for making deviled eggs for a gathering as an appetizer. Once you really get a good taste of their goodness you will never go back!

Happy cooking!!!

Technically it isn't an embryo.. it is an ovum... a delicious ovum... lol

You only get an embryo and then a chick if it is fertilised and then incubated.

The amount of times I've had a conversation with friends about how is it possible to get an egg with no rooster... usually I ask (to my female friends) if they still produce an egg when they don't have a boyfriend... OLOL!

If it works for you then that's that. I keep chickens so they will lay me eggs that taste much, much better than anything I can get at the store. You keep chickens as pets that pay their own way. Neither one of us is wrong.

Don't worry about it. If it really is bothersome I have no doubt you will eventually melt a teaspoon of butter in a skillet and cook a freshly-laid egg in it just to find out what it's like. Until it does get that bothersome, it's all good.

You know I was a little creeped out at first, well, I've never raised chickens before so I made my husband and daughter try the 3 eggs we got that morning ( all cooked different ) first then me.... UNBELIVABLE!!! The flavor is so much better, it's rich and clean tasting...store bought taste watery to me now and we can't keep eggs around here and I wasn't one to eat many eggs before....I had 24 eggs in the fridge and now I only have 8 left

My daughter (12 yo) said she will NEVER eat a store bought egg again...so we use them in recipes since we still have a few left from before they laid...waste not!

But you know my son is completly freaked out...he wont touch them...he's still amazed that the inside looks the same as a store bought egg

But if you just don't want to eat them and give them away it's still a lot of fun raising chickens and collecting eggs!! I am trying so hard to save some up for my in-laws but we just end up eating them all..

When I first seen those dark orange yolks, I thought something must be wrong! LOL!!! Hope yours lay soon! For their sake too, you know because of the axe and all....

When we started on our chicken adventure and the girls began to lay I couldn't eat the eggs either, I'd go out and buy store boughts for myself and DH would eat the fresh eggs from home. I gave family lots of them and everyone ranted and raved on how tasty they were So....... IO broke down and ate some and holy moly rocky was it goood stuff!!! Unbelievably scrumptious. I almost wanted to kick myself for not eating them right away. There hasn't been a store bought egg in this house for YEARS now.
