I need to know quickly...should I remove them?

for once I have to agree with you..

and especially in this instance, the hatch date is so close, washing all the bloom off is not going to hurt a thing..

Just this once, huh? That's funny, since you and I very often say very similar things, and often give almost exactly the same advice, on many topics.

We disagree about sharpies, however, your pencil is ok too, it doesn't hurt them either. I can't see pencil marks very well, and it rubs off under a hen. I have a bunch of chicks right now, hatched from eggs marked with sharpies.

your memory is better than mine..
I have limited recall of past posts.

My vision is going bad,too.. I use sharpies for many other markings but still not eggs..

we don't mark the eggs under the hens..so I cannot say if they get rubbed off //

I ave it worked out to just put the month and day of expected hatch on each egg..
then I have a grid sheet where I log in each egg so I know where to look for a certain one or to know what is due to hatch. sometimes I have over 600 eggs in the incubators, and I could neer remember where anyone of them are,,

Thank you all for your wisdom...advice
I really appreciate it
Well I washed them and changed the bedding and put the hen right back on the nest and she hasnt left it yet.
So fingers crossed and god willing I will have a good hatch ...I have 8 so far (july 29,31 & 1st) very healthy feisty chicks.

I have heard about not washing eggs and i have found it doesn't hurt anything. The proof is in the brooder. I have always washed my eggs if they need it and my last hatch i hatched 50 out of 57 fertile eggs.

No, my memory sucks, too. I just didn't recall the two of us having any particular conflict, so I clicked your name, and click the thing to show past posts, and read a bunch of posts you wrote, that sounded a lot like the ones I write.

The reason I mark eggs that go under hens, is that I don't have the space to isolate each one, the other hens lay eggs in the nests, so I need to identify the original eggs being incubated. Then there's the clever hens that steal each others eggs and actually move them around to other nests. Clear marking lets me remove new eggs, and sort the others if they get mixed up, and sometimes, they do get mixed up. I've even been the culprit myself, accidently removing a marked egg. Then when I see that, I can put it back, and know where to put it back.

Once, this summer, I had 9 broodies at once. And I had some shuffling of eggs from 'bator to hen, and from hen to 'bator. Sharpies made it easier, and I got a great hatch rate on my own eggs. Not so good with shipped eggs, but I'm sure the shipping was the culprit, not the sharpies. Pencil wouldn't have held up, in addition to me getting eyestrain trying to read it.

Okiecountrygirl, I hope you have a good hatch! Good luck, and please let us know how it turns out.

8 good hatches so far, or 8 chicks? Either way, healthy and feisty is good!
