I will admit my mind is inadequate when trying to solve problems of this type. I recently bought a waterer for my chickens. It is a nipple system and the nipple goes directly into an igloo cooler. My chickens do not like to drink from a nipple and will only do so reluctantly and drink very little. So I have these little watering cups that they will drink from without any problem. But the threaded end of the cup is way smaller than the opening in the cooler. I have included a couple of pictures and just maybe someone can dicepher what I am talking about. Could I put the regular spigot back on the cooler and drill a smaller hole that would accommodate the threaded end of the cup waterer

Yep, you can juryrig whatever solution works, and as long as it doesn't leak overly much you're golden. Water's pretty cooperative stuff, aside from escaping easily. Just be sure nothing falls in that could clog up your spout.
