I need to vent

Is everyone staying clucky?

It is March 10 and lots of goings on has occurred since my last post. Rather quickly Last Monday morning at 4AM I was awakened with a pinpoint located pain directly over my heart. I went to the ER and was observed for several hours then admitted.

Long story short It was not a heart attack but the Dr.s feel since I could point to where the pain was exactly it might have been Gas or muscular, rather then heart related. A scan however reveled a 50% calcium blockage that my Dr.s didn't know about.

Moving on. I apologies if this is a little long but non the less interesting. So the saga of my permitting continues, no I still don't have it yet after waiting for 2 weeks now. However there is light at the end of the tunnel.

This afternoon I logged into the Orange County Fast track permitting system and opened the active link associated to my permit number. There has been no change in status since I up loaded the missing doc. requested by zoning 10 days ago or so.

Disappointed and just a little frustrated I decided to call the lady who requested the missing doc. After a little phone tag I got through to her. She was very understanding and quite helpful.

I introduced my self and quickly got her up to speed as to what has taken place. She informed me that she had not received any new documentation since I first sent the application in 2 weeks ago, and that perhaps I forgot to hit the submit button when I uploaded the missing Doc. People forget to hit the submit button all the time she stated. I knew there was no submit button to be found but she insisted.

While I had her on the line I quickly logged into the system and pulled up the page that stated the last doc I sent, [ the requested lost file] indicated by their system that the file went through. She said she had nothing on her end, except from the original application Docs. and once again she insisted that perhaps I did not hit the submit button after up loading the lost file.

While still speaking with her I glanced over the page and spotted a little blue line [active link] off by it's self that read up load new file. I clicked on the link and then quickly pulled up the missing file from my system. I then told her step by step what I was doing. Dragging and dropping the file into the field, it connected and I hit the up load tab which immediately stated up load successful, I then scrawled down to the bottom of the page just a line or two distance wise and I stated to her there is absolutely no submit button to be seen.

I told her what an ordeal the system had been and it shouldn't be this much of a problem to get some chickens, she agreed and then said you know, there is a staff of people that can help you with any problems your having navigating the instructions and can explain the little quirks in the system.

I was dumb struck, I'm thinking wait you have a staff of people I can contact that deal with this stuff all the time but no where in any of the poorly explained instructions does it refer to this group or how to contact them. Are you kidding me.???????

Any way she promised to continue to look for the missing files and we hug up. I went and ran some errands and when I got home logged back in. Several new lines of Info have been added to the states line of my permit, letting me know that they ether must have found my file or have added the one I sent her in a private email.

Regardless she said when she finds out what's going on I should know by the close of business Wed. Where I stand with my permit.

Fingers crossed.

Stay Clucky. :wee
That's almost unbelievable. Their system is rediculous. You should find a few other places where they have a similar application and send them links to it.

It's the fault of probably someone in their IT Department that is old as dust or left their agency a decade ago and nobody's taken it over.

Is there a link way on the bottom to report a problem to the admin?

I'm back.
Ill start with your last question first. No there is no link to report a problem connected to this part of the program [BYC] If there is a link anywhere in the system you have to go searching for it and yah.....NO! I'm not going there for now any way, I will be tackling that issue at a later date. Sometimes you have to let things simmer a bit before you stir the pot.
Someone did start the BYC program about 6 years ago doing a regional survay to bring all the facts together to get the EGG rolling and yes she has since left the program. Two people are now in charge of it but it's not their total attention. They do other permitting review and only these two handle chicken stuff.

So good news and of course bad news, the bad news first.
Monday I did my errands as previously mentioned and someplace along the line I was exposed to someone hosting a head cold.

Monday night I started with a sore throat, Tuesday morning I felt like I got hit with a truck and spent the day in bed looking for said truck. This morning I found said truck and took something for it and am functioning enough to be here now.

You all might want to consider taking out stock in Kleenex as I am blowing through[pun intended] boxes of the stuff.

Now for the good news, Drum roll please🥁🥁🥁I am the proud owner of BYC Permit # BCH 000202:wee:bun:jumpy:bow

So keeping in OC fashion I looked to see what comes next, regarding inspections. I already know that there will be one but no where can I find any info as to what that entails.

Construction, proper location, proper material, I don't know if it is checked along the way, is there a finale inspection, I have no idea.

My gut says call the gal who granted the permit and ask. Cause I know sure as shoot'en I'm going to be in the middle of building or some other phase and Ill get someone from Zoning come in and say Nope ya cant do that or I want it done this way.

All in all I've pretty much crossed the finish line.
Yeah!!!!:woot

Condolences and congratulations!

There's a lot of colds and flu going around this year. I hope you feel better.

And great news about the permit! Given the problems you had, I'm guessing they started with permit #0200, and you're only the 2nd person to finish THAT marathon!

Wow, congrats!

Well, maybe you should go meet the building inspector? I see where you're going with the way they are there, so maybe can nip that right in the bud by meeting them and asking them to stop over even if they could.

Were you planning to build one I presume? By now you've probably already found our Coop Forum, but I'm in the habit of posting it anyway so there's one place to get some great ideas and even find ones with blueprints and instructions. You could show your building inspector a photo of one and get their blessing in advance.

Hi Deb.
Yes I'm aware of the coop forum thank you. I have picked a coop out from the internet that had renderings of what the finished project should look like. I had to submit them in advance as part of the permitting process.

I chose the Third Coast Craftsmen's coop design in general and plan to use it as the basic design but will modify it to suit my needs. I also purchased his detailed cad drawings [30 pages worth] to help me build and scale my coop down to the Max size the county will allow me to have. Finished coop 4'x5' 18 inches off the ground so between the square footage of the coop + the Pen a total of 100 square feet of outdoor living area.

People build coops out of 2x4's which for 4 chickens is a lot of over kill. As I said The design I like, however, I am just going to build it a lot lighter but just as strong for what the end product requires.

Yes I have a background in constructions so I know where I can cut some corners and material costs and still have a very sturdy structure for the occasional Central Florida hurricane winds, plus It will be anchored to the ground.

I have looked at a lot of designs. one modification to my coop will be that the wall that faces the pen will be screened in the center, about 2 foot wide top to bottom to allow for good ventilation. Hinged doors of plywood will close over the screen during heavy storms to protect the girls and to make the forth wall that much sturdier over all. I also want to have two sides with doors so that I can get to each side of the coop for cleaning purposes.

Ok break time is over let me go do some chores while I'm feeling up to it.

I tried to print just a photo but the system will not let me this is the final overall design I chose from Third coast craftsmen.
Stay clucky :thumbsup

Here you go!

Hey Debbi thank you for converting the file My computer skills I guess are not what they should be.

So this will be the final product only the height to the top of the coop will be 6 foot tall and the length of the pen area will be 16 feet as I am going 5 foot wide anyway total of 100 sqft. [Pen & Coop] when finished. Im going to build it out of 2x2 rather then 2x4's it will be tied together to the coop and will have 8 anchors screwed into the ground to mitigate any wind problems that may occur during Hurricanes and Himmicanes depending on which name they choose.

I also got a call back from the county after I called the gal who reviewed and passed my permitting. She said we don't do any further inspection after this go ahead and build what you have indicated in the plans.

Hmmmm? I thought that's interesting. They make you jump through all these hoops to pass permitting but once permitted, your good to go do your thing without further inspection. So what was the point. Any way I'm happy I passed, looking forward to getting started but have a couple other things to get out of the way before I can get started.

Stay Clucky everyone. :thumbsup :wee

You're very welcome!

I'm not hugely computer savvy, but when something says it can't be done, I'm stubborn and keep trying. I know just enough to get me in trouble on my desktop, though, but no viruses can get me! :D

That was actually a program, Pixillion, I used from dictation software I pay for premium (Express Scribe) from NCH Software, but this was free.

Hi Debbie, LOL you and I are cut from the same cloth, I learned early on I have one "HOT" button. Tell me I cant do something or say "You cant do that" as in, its not possible and oh boy!

I go into hulk mode. The Gazillion amp Atomic Batteries switch on the FLux Capacitors lock down, the Laser Sharp attention and focusing programming kick in and all I can say is get out of the way or Ill run you over with OH YES I CAN, Watch Me Do It.

When the smoke clears and the dust settles what i was told couldn't be done is finished on time and under budget. and that's the way you do it. :yesss:
