I need to whine

My hopes were probably set too high. Maybe I got bamboozled, the woman I got them from said that her leghorns laid about 300 days per year. Who knows. At this point, I'd be happy for 8-12 eggs a week from my four hens!

I recall reading one of the tips on the McMurray site saying an average hen lays 2 eggs every 3 days.

7/3= 2.333 3-day units in a 7 day week

2.333 X 2 = 4.666 eggs per week per average hen

4.666 X 4 = 18.664 eggs per week per 4 average hens

So expecting 15-20 eggs a week from 4 hens is right in line with the average at least as far as the McMurray tip goes.

I'm new to chickens, but my 4 Golden Comets must have been breed for egg production. They started laying a few weeks ago and I'm getting 4 eggs a day, 7 days a week (for now). That's 28 eggs! I'm not complaining but very surprised! Keep it up girls!

I have 5 pullets who recently started laying - one minorca, one leghorn, one SLW, and 2 BR's. I get 2-5 eggs a day, which works just perfectly with the poster's expectation of 4 birds laying 15-20 per week.

And clarkestep, I think most sex-links like your golden comets are bred for production. They're supposed to be excellent layers.

I imagine that when all four are in their stride that you could easily be getting that many. After all, if they all laid one egg a day for a week, that would be 28 eggs.
