I never used this one, the LG

Well the first group is out! 6 of 6! Very very clean hatch - clean peeps. I made the humidity higher in the room and grabbed them out. Now the rest are not due until tomorrow night. Usually I won't split like this but this time I did, 24 hours apart, because at first I was not going to hatch the second ones on the same incubator but then I ended up packing all three of them full.

I hatch big Orps and Marans and whatnot all the time, and I've not had a big problem with anyone getting burnt. I take them out as soon as they fluff up, though, or in the morning, whichever comes first- I use the window of the LG as a quick-access door. I'm not as worried about the 'Lockdown' (or 'Confinement' as I call it) as most folks- works for me.

If I think I'm going to have to leave them for the entirety of a hatch, which can take 36 hours or more from the first chick to the last, I might deliberately use the Hovabator, as it's got a taller dome- BUT the windows don't open, so you HAVE to open the whole lid to get in and out, and I hate that!! I prefer my LGs and especially the RComs.

I've been keeping up with this thread since I will attempt my first hatch after the holidays and was wondering what is a RCom?

It's a brand of incubator. Here's a link.

If you can find one on sale or used, it's the best incubator to have, bar none, if you only need to hatch 20 or so.

I got mine off of ebay. The price has skyrocketed lately, and I definitely wouldn't spend what they're asking on one, no matter how good they are. I use lots of LGs and a Hovabator along with my one RCom.
