I never wanted to mow it in the first place.

That's my take on the matter as well.

I make DH mow the front yard weekly to maintain a respectable appearance.....but I don't mow the back until I can't see the chickens anymore!!!!
We have all this lovely clover and many "weeds" but even my dad says that the lawn looks better now than it did when we moved in (thanks to the birds fertilization efforts I'm sure!!!!!). I do feel that letting the grass grow taller is GOOD for it. People who have "perfect" 2" high monoculture grass always have crunchy hard lawns that don't feel good to walk on, and really that shorter part of the grass is more ugly than the greener tops are. They cut off the prettiest parts!!!

Yep! When our big chocolate lab is bounding over the grass in the backyard, it's time to mow. The beagle loves to wind his way through tall grass, it makes him feel like a wild beagle.

I fenced mine in and put sheep on it! Best decision I've made regarding the lawn...now my old John Deere can retire and watch the grass grow.

I really don't care much about grass BUT....we have 1 dog who will follow the other 2 around and pee on the exact spots they use, as soon as they're done! Needless to say we get brown spots which I absolutely despise! I go around with a hand rake, grass seed and potting soil and fix the spots. I just think they look terrible! Not like our lawn is great, most of it is this weird ground cover that looks like strawberry leaves. Some of the grass is rather sparse in spots....and it's at least 2 dozen different shades of green. There are holes where the big dog chased moles and dug trying to get to them. Under the apple trees, its more like moss. None of that bothers me...just those stupid brown spots!

Maybe it's because most of the spots are next to the front walk and back patio where the grass is naturally thickest and greenest. They stand out more. It's like a giant pee puddle to me. I just have to make them go away!!!!!! lol

Our border collie does this too... its him showing dominance... and I thinks its pretty funny to watch especially where he goes from fence post to fence post to do the same thing.... though the other day we think he may have gotten a zap from peeing on the posts around the pig pasture... its newly electric wired and he hasn't gone near the pigs since!

we don't actually seem to have much grass except in the pastures where the goat and lambs roam but Simon is still out there mowing the weeds... hopefully the geese will be able to roam more soon (fending off the dogs) and the mowing will be down to a minimum!

I'm still boggling over jet fuel in breastmilk... think maybe we ought to get THAT cleared up before we freak out over folks who mow once a week (in spring summer) and once a month or less in winter... course, folks like me don't put millions in politicians pockets like airlines do, so we're easy targets.

It was another topic that was posted... they tested the milk of 1000+ folks all over the country... city, rural, suburbs, boonies and ALL tested positive... so much for mother's milk being the natural way... argh. Scary to me that the only way to avoid feeding your child jet fuel is to give them formula... bleh. Reckon maybe they ought to do something about that, instead of picking on Joe Shmoe because he follows the code enforcement laws on the books in his city that say his grass can't be more than 12" or whatever. Seems pretty crappy to me that they would try and make me feel guilty for being a law abiding citizen... but they ignore the emissions that jets are producing...

I don't think anybody here is saying that other people shouldn't be allowed to mow their own lawns. It's just that many of us would rather grow gardens, crops, or native plants instead of acres of ornamental grass. And actually, most communities that have 'weed ordinances' specifically allow for gardens or native plantings that exceed the allotted hight. Now HOAs, that's a different matter...
