lost my grandfather, my step mother in law and my dh's grandfather in a two week period.

I just spoke with my mom. Her dh is going for a bone scan Friday because the regular xrays, taken at the er because he fell on the arm when he lost his balance(recovering from a stroke he suffered 2 .6 years ago) and it immediately turned BLACK. Showed something that they are saying "could be bone cancer"

My family has avoided the "C" word somehow for years.
Every house in the neighborhood has been dealt a blow from cancer. The neighbor to the right the mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Neighbor to the left has an inoperable brain tumor. Neighbor across the street- lung and bone cancer. Neighbor across from the field- skin cancer. So now it seems we are going to be dealing with it as well. And with him already still recovering from the stroke. I really dont know what he is going to want to do or will be able to handle. And my mom. OMG I dont know how she is going to deal with this. He had the stroke literally months after she retired. She has since been the primary caregiver. Has had two weeks "off" in the last two going on three years. She has dropped a lot of weight. She never sleeps. If she gets sick she still keeps going because they cant afford to hire someone to come in. I really dont know if she will make it through this if that "shadow" the er doc saw is actually the "C" word.

He already made her promise she wouldnt put him in a nursing home. He wants to die at home. In his own space.
When will this crap end? I have to take my daughter to the hearing specialist next week because she still cant hear out of one ear. Ear infection is gone according to her pedi.. but her hearing was affected. cripes.

When our world is so consumed with the economy and politics - sometimes we forget the real tragedies that go on around us. What a wake up call to stop and appreciate today and each other. R&SMOM: Our hearts go out to you. Please know that you are in the prayers of many today and in the days to come.

Best Wishes with your daughter as she goes to her appointment. May God watch over her and give your pediatrician guidance and wisdom.

I'm so sorry to hear of all your loss. I lost a dear friend to cancer this summer.

[IMG] I feel your pain. It seems to me quite a few people are having a rough time right now and it has nothing to do with the economy!

I'm so sorry - what a blow to have three relatives to pass on in a short amount of time.

I can't help but wonder - are there high voltage power lines running through your mom's neighborhood? Are they near a contaminated site? It seems like there has to be something along those lines to be causing that many cases of cancer in a small area. Try contacting...I don't know, the department of health maybe and have them do a survey.

    <<big hugs>> Take care - Katie

R&SM - My sincere condolences. Hang in there! It seems that we often get just the right amount of strength we need to get through unbelievable times like you all are going thru.

Without elborating or making it sound like "I've-seen-just-as-many-tough-times-as-you", just let me say I've been there in some degree. Oftentimes, you are able to be a rock or support someone who really benefits from what you have to offer. To have to be there for you Mom like it sounds will be tough.

    Take care!

I have a ear condition called meniere's disease. It troubles the hearing in the effected ear and is often missed by many Dr's. Try googling that. Also it was mis-dianosed as something called labrythitis which happens when a cold settles in the ear. Those are just a few ideas for you. I hope things get better for you all soon [IMG]
