Update!

My buff brahma adopted all 13 of the new babies, safely delivered from Ideal Poultry. My australorp rejected and attacked the babies I had given her. I first split the batch up between the two hens, but Isabelle ended up with all of them. She is an awesome mother!! She has not even taken them outside yet, but is teaching them to peck around inside the cage (by tipping over the food dish!)

I take some responsibility for the australorp freaking over the new babies. I should have done this at night, but I needed to go out of town for one night a couple days after delivery, so I gave them the babies in the morning. She was terribly confused. She might have even taken them if I only gave her a couple, but I kept adding more. I did it wrong, and she wasn't ready. Thankfully Isabelle (large buff brahma - 1st time mom) took to all of them.

I have given my australorp some eggs to sit on. She gets up during the day on her own, so I'm guessing she can handle another couple weeks. If not, it will be her choice to stop.
