I put my rooster down with nitrous oxide. It worked well.

It's 'laughing gas', and with O2, is pretty safe. It will kill when O2 is displaced by the NO, as when wearing a face mask and the O2 is turned off. This is BAD news! In a container, I'd guess it would be harder to achieve. Never tried, though.
