I put some fertile eggs underneath her...JUNE 6th- PICS ON PG 6

I got nothing. No peeping eggs, no pips, no cracks, no movement, just nothing. Gotta say this whole broody hatching eggs thing is way harder than raising parrots /puppies/kittens/ or any of the dozens of rescue babies of various species Ive done over the years. I set the eggs under the broody 5/17/11 about 9 pm. I candled using a strong flashlight and saw good development in 10 of 12 eggs and saw movement in some of them at that time. My hen has gone off the eggs a couple of times long enough for the eggs to get cool to the touch. In the mean time I had a second hen go broody( a silkie) and split the remaining eggs between the 2 birds.
So Im not sure what to think at this point. Im going to wait till next Tuesday before I decide to pull the eggs if they dont hatch. Maybe Im just being too impatient.

When should I give up hope that they will hatch? Is there anything else I should be doing or could have done to be successful?

Breezy, your 21 days hasn't even come yet, so don't think about giving up hope! Our 21 days is up tonight, and so far nothing interesting is going on. We didn't candle or anything throughout the whole process, so no idea what our chances are. Just letting mama do her thing and hoping for the best. No point worrying until it's several days past the 21 day marker I figure. We've never done this before, so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but from researching on this site it seems like it's not uncommon for some eggs to take a day or two longer. I just assume I'm gonna go out to the coop one day and be surprised to see little heads poking out from under Roxie!

Well when your right your right Azfordby! I woke up to a bunch of pipped eggs and a chick. I have no idea what it is but its a cute little thing. Stripey like a chipmunk with green legs and dark lines like eyeliner around its eyes. Im a happy camper today!

Yay! My husband checked in on them early this morning before work and said he heard peeping and pecking, so it looks like ours will be coming along soon too. I checked on them a little bit ago and and neither heard nor saw anything.

Roxie's chest was puffed out extra big though, so she probably covered up whoever was doing anything interesting really quickly when I came in. She's such a snot.

So sweet! Congratulations, Lil! And good luck on your four still to come. I can't wait to see our little fluffballs. I finally heard the peeping myself, so something exciting should happen here today or tomorrow. I'm so curious to see how many out of our seven eggs will actually hatch. We never bothered them since the night we put them under our broody, so we have no idea how many are viable. Well, at least one for sure since someone's peeping! I hope Roxie will be a good mama...

Well when they decided to go they didnt muck around. I had 10 of 10 hatch. All seem strong and active except for one who seems a bit weak still. Hopefully all will survive to adulthood. I will post pics in a day or 2. Who woulda a thunk such a simple thing as eggs hatching would bring such big smiles? Pretty nifty stuff!

Woo hoo!!! We have 2 out of 7 so far. They are cute! When we went to dinner there was only one and a pipped egg. When we got home there were 2 chicks. Come on 5 more!! I really want the EE/Jersey Giant mix to hatch (and be a hen).
