Thanks so much everyone. BYC is a truly amazing community.
This is what happened to him.
"A widow maker is a nickname used to describe a highly stenotic left main coronary artery or proximal left anterior descending coronary artery of the heart. This term is used because if the artery gets abruptly and completely occluded it will cause a massive heart attack that will likely lead to death. The blockage that kills is made up of platelets streaming to the site of a ruptured cholesterol plaque. Even a small amount of plaque in this area can (for a variety of poorly understood reasons) rupture and cause death; bypassing chronic blockages or trying to open them up with angioplasty does not prevent heart attack but it can restore blood flow in case of a sudden blockage or heart attack. An example of the devastating results of a complete occlusion of the LAD (Left Anterior Descending) artery is the sudden death of newsman Tim Russert. From the minute a widow-maker hits, you have a five-minute window of time to get to a hospital or receive emergency care[1]."
My dad waited a day to get to the hospital. The doctor said he might be able to get out of the hospital on Sunday. He may get out of ICU tomorrow. Then he may get home a couple days after that. I'm hoping it's by thanksgiving. I really miss him.
Eta- Y'all really have no idea how much I appreciate the support I've gotten from you wonderful people. I really needed it.
Even though he did not get to the hospital in the recommended 2 hours, he DID get there, and they are able to put in a stint, so that is really really good. I know its very tough on you not being with him, and I don't know the whole story on that but do know being out of state with someone going through surgery is hard. Keep your chin up, he is getting help.

This type of heart attack needs to be treated in the first five minutes apparently... But Dad waited 26 hours. So since he was that strong, it gives me hope.

Yeah, he took two flights of stairs a little fast and his heart got off-rhythm, so they had to go the ER. He's having trouble sleeping because of pericarditis or something of the like. He's coughing constantly. He needs to just sleep, so the doctor gave him some sleeping pills.
He should be home by next Wednesday!!!
