What the doctor says it true though, hun.... i know after having watched a LOT of people pass away in my CNA job.
Just try to keep her comfortable.... and pain free. Thats the most important thing.
I'm so sorry about you having to see this though. Its not an easy thing..but it is a hard fact of life sometimes.
I also have a fear of dying... UGH! HOW will i die?? Will it be in a nasty car wreck... Ouch!
Or will i just pass in my sleep.. or suffer with some disease...
And i dont WANT to die... i dont want to NOT be here anymore... i aint going without a fight!
Prayers are coming your way. Spend every day with her!
If you do what your phobia tells you to do, you will really regret what you did once shes gone.
Its more worth it to see her every moment untill she passes then to leave and never see her again.
Keep praying, God does send down miracles.
The nurse is trying to help you help your aunt. By forcing liquids, you can cause undue pain, both physically and emotionally. She wants to get better and she wants to make you happy. Make her happy, enjoy the time while you can and don't think about what is going to happen. Enjoy each moment to it's fullest.
I'm scared to death to die the way my mom went. I think almost anything is better than that.
Sweetheart, if you Aunt is on hospice, and is near the end of her life, forcing liquids can do more harm than good. I hate to tell you that, but it is the truth. Your hospice nurses honestly have your Aunt's (and your) best interest at heart. They are trying to help you help your Aunt. My Momma was on hospice, and i was forcing liquids. Their body truly cannot handle liquids as it shuts down, and it doesn't process it normally. Forcing liquids can cause your kidneys to shut down quicker, accelerate congestive heart failure, or go into their lungs because they swallowing mechanism is so weak. There are other things that you can do to help to keep her comfortable, without causing more harm to her. Eye drops will help keep her eyes moist, a gel lip balm on a q-tip can be swabbed inside the mouth and on the lips to help keep dryness at bay, etc. Think outside the box, but do take the advice of the hospice staff. They are there to ensure that your Aunt's needs are taken care of, and they will do everything in their power to prevent you from accelerating her demise. You truly do not want that on your conscience.
