The Eglu is a great chicken house. It has saved our pet duck from enemies several times. The first time, a dog tried to dig its way into the Eglu. The second time it was a very persistent raccoon. I love the Eglu and I thought you might want to know why!
I understand that the Eglu isn't for everyone but I highly recommend it! (Ours is hot pink!)

To FaithAnn: It is actually bigger than most people realize! The price is too high, though.

To Farmanimallovr: I would recommend it! The Silkies (not a great flying breed I've heard) would probably like being able to roost.

I like the Eglu too but no good where we live. It gets too cold here and we need something insulated and we can't get them here anyway.

Personnaly, I beleive if your going to have a chicken, give it a real space. One chicken is supposed to have 3 sq feet inside it's "coop". Anyway, if I had those living quarters I would try to escape. But... If you aren't finished with your coop or something like it, I guess it would be a nice place to have until you fix it up, but then you run into the money problem. I think it is a waste of money, I could build a small wooden coop for less and fit more hens.. so if you want one, i guess the saftey of it gives it a good come-back..

They are cute..

AHappyChick's Eglu is super cool. The silkies love it. It's the only one I've seen up close and think it's a great little coop. Yeah, it's pricey.

Yup..i'd use one for a few birds if i could afford one.

I've always liked them..easy to clean...etc.

You'd be surprised if you saw how BIG those Eglus are! When we opened the box, we were impressed. For anything bigger than four birds, I would prefer the HenSpa (we own one of those, too) or a homemade house. I think the Eglus are the only chicken houses available in pink!

Fun.

I have one. Love it. However we didn't buy the run that came with the Eglu. Instead we have it up on a platform and connected to a run we had built. This way they have lots of space when they're not free ranging. Cost less without their run too. And agreed, steep price. Sometimes used one are available. The main reason I got one was the ease of cleaning. So for me a huge run and the Eglu as the coop has worked out really well.
