I rented my neighbor's drake.

I have 2 drakes and I think inbreeding has been happening due to the fact there is only 2 of them. I am starting to get some ducklings with deformities who dies at birth. I decided to rent my neighbor's black Muscovy to mate with 5 of my french white muscovy females. I want to know if a week is enough for him to impregnate one of them? I promised my neighbor 20 ducklings for this. Isolated 4 females with the rented drake. How many days should I keep him before I return him to owner. I rented him to diversify the genetic pool.

Have your ducks ever interacted with the neighbors? If not they’ll need a little time before they breed.

How many eggs do you get each day? I would have him for a week, then after the week, keep him until your girls have laid enough to set. If you’re hoping for 20 ducklings I would set 30-ish eggs. Your drakes may not be the problem, please keep that in mind. Are you using an incubator or a broody?

I will be using broodies. I have 102 ducks now. 100 females and 2 males. The girls don't seem to be comfortable with the new guy. They prefer their dad husband. I am trying to diversify the bloodline since they all came from my original 7 ducks.

Oh boy, I thought you only had seven, that’s a lot of ducks, lol. How long is your neighbor willing to let you use him?

He said for a week but I am considering to negotiate and make it a month.

I think a month would definitely be better. Search around here and find an article or thread about integrating new birds. After getting them comfortable I would wait a week or so to start collecting eggs to hatch, that way they’re more likely to be fertile.

Most of those girls are "pre-teens" I don't think they will be having babies anytime soon.
