I rescued a baby bird now what?update

I think I am just going to keep it seperate and keep feeding it in the container it is in and hope for the best. Meal worms is what I think I am going to give it. I meant give it to my silkie to follow around to learn to find feed in my outside dog exercise pen I should have been alot clearer alot going on right now.

No prob.. I really wouldnt put it with any of my birds as you could potentially wipe out your whole flock...

You have a fledgling...probably got nabbed by the cat as it was practicing leaving the nest! LOL You can also give it chopped up egg yolk and put a jar lid with water in it's cage. If you have a cage that's big enough for it to practice flying that would be great. Stick a couple of perches, one at either end, so it can practice flying. If not, just keep it for another week. Take it into your bathroom, close the door and let it go. See if it can fly high. If it can then it's good to release. If not then keep it another week and try again. Lucky bird!!

Try Canned cat food from a toothpick w/ the sharp end broken off. Its worked for me w/ starlings, mocking birds and blue jays. good luck

Do you know what kind of bird it is?

If it's nearly flying and you can see the parents feeding the other chicks nearby, you could try to reintroduce it. Most smaller birds don't get much more than a week of fledgling feeding before their parents dump them..... Oh to be a bird

Watch out for the cat though !!

I have looked and looked for the parents. I will try post pics tonight after my softball game. I have to charge camera battery. Thanks everyone for your ideas

I'm sorry too. For future reference, I've raised many baby birds on cat food. Canned or dry. The dry needs to be soaked first for 20 minutes or so, until it's soft.

I see you are in NH. Your vet may know a wildlife rehabber locally, or you can call the state Fish and Game dept. They have a list of rehabbers in the whole state. I know a few.

Always a shame but often the outcome in these situations - especially after rough handling by another animal.

Better luck next time - at least you tried.
