I rescued an Ameracauna hen from a previous owner whom neglected her care. I renamed her Poppy, gave her a bath with soap and water to remove her parasites and mud, and now she is wearing a chicken diaper resting on my bed. I was told by the previous owner that Poppy was attacked by other aggressive hens, and that the owner also trimmed her wings to the bare tips - Ouch!

How can Poppy regrow her wings fast? Will a high protein feed work?

Also, Poppy will be living in an outdoor coop and run during the daytime. During the evenings I will bring her indoors and she will wear a diaper.

Another worry for me, is I hope other people won't think of me as crazy for pampering this neglected hen. Can anyone here provide me with strong moral support?

Thank you.

I also want to take Poppy out to a local pet store or park in a pet stroller, but how should I react if a jerk walks up to me and laughs at me?

Take her to TSC. I brought my goat there for a walk once. As long as I had something to keep her from leaving poop on the floor it was fine.

I would simply say that it's like taking a dog for a walk: You enjoy time with your pet, and my pet just so happens to be a chicken.
Or ignore them.
Beautiful hen, by the way!
