I also want to take Poppy out to a local pet store or park in a pet stroller, but how should I react if a jerk walks up to me and laughs at me?

You may get some odd looks, but if I saw someone out with their pet chicken, I would be over there in a heart beat, asking the name/breed/can I pet him/her and watch me closely in case I try to take him/her home with me. You will get those poor souls who don’t understand, but you’ll also get us Chicken People who’ll be thrilled to see her . Just be cautious and aware of the surroundings. I’m always paranoid something tragic will happen (somebody’s unruly dog gets loose etc.), so I take extra precautions.

Another worry for me, is I hope other people won't think of me as crazy for pampering this neglected hen. Can anyone here provide me with strong moral support?

She’s lucky you got her! If she had lice you may need to treat her with some poultry dust or spray. Bathing may wash some off but won’t kill the eggs. Good luck and thank you for sharing her with us!

Some of our chickens watch tv with my kids, so be you and walk with your chicken inside the stroller like you own the world!!!

might be a good idea to get another hen as companion, chickens get lonely without flockmates (even though you are giving her lots of attention )
