I was moving a clutch of Marans eggs to a more secure nesting area for one of my (8) broodies and dropped one. It had a pretty good sized dent but the membranes were intact and Marans shells are so thick I thought I would try a repair with beeswax. I waxed it and popped it into the incubator with another set. I candled it the next day but some of the crack lines seemed to be growing so I rewaxed it. Every time I checked it the cracks were worse but no leakage and no smell. I kept candling it expecting it to be dead but could discern veins so kept sealing the cracks with wax. 3 days go by...and I figure out the autoturner is pinning it against the wall of the incubator and that is why the cracking is getting worse. A tiny piece of shell fell off - I figured it was time to call it quits - it was dented and cracked over 80 percent of the shell. So I took it out back and opened it - and darn it, that chick was still alive. I feel horrible. The chances it would have made it to hatch are slim...and even if it hatched it might have been compromised...but I still feel really really bad
