I saw a mottled silkie today-Update, I bought her!!! Now PICS page 4!

Won't you post some pictures of your project mottleds & other strange colors? The interesting thing about this hen to me, is that she has no other breed out-crossings to get her color-pure silkie all the way. I'll look into buying her in a week or two once I have moved. I wont do it before because she needs some serious quarantine as her flock is very badly kept.

Does anyone know what you have to breed together to get a mottled silkie?

I would imagine that you would have to mix in another bird, perhaps a cochin or houdan. I would go with a houdan before I would a cochin.

Hmmm, why? Typically cochins and polish have been used to bring genes/varieties into silkies.

Anyways, I've used cochins, but another breeder is using houdans.

Yup, I've only ever kept silkies.
I'll post pics once she is in better condition. She came from an awful place & I didn't want to touch her except to spray her with Frontline. In a few days I will wash her & then post pics. Sigh, she came with a roo (which is leaving as I really didn't want him) & he is so diseased, I just hope that no one caught anything fatal from him. I will have everyone tested soon to be sure.
I came home from a holiday to find that my boyfriend had put him in with my heart & soul silkie a week before I came back. The boyfriend is now an ex & will be a dead ex if my darling caught anything terrible as the roo is so sickly, I don't even know what he is still doing alive.
I want to wring the man's neck just thinking about it again.
