I set eggs 2/27/10 ** DUE 3/20th-3/21st** WE"RE HATCHING!!!!

I have 8 chicks in there playing pinball with the rest of the eggs!!!!!!! I have active pips though, so no way am I gonna open the bator at this point!! This is SO MUCH FUN!!!

Just 11 more days until my ducks hatch! And the Bantam Cochins in the other 'bator should hatch exactly one week later - which is good, because having some cute, fluffy ducklings will help me survive that last week.

Since I don't have any pictures of cute, fluffy chicks or ducklings to share yet, here's a picture of the pretty eggs I've been getting from one of my duck pens - who says you need Easter Egger chickens to get pretty eggs?

Hi everyone. This is our first try at hatching eggs. We've had a dozen hens for almost 2 years now and finally decided to hatch out some replacements. We set our eggs on 2/27 at about 9pm, so I'm counting today as day 20. Things have gone really well so far. We set 25 eggs and only ended up removing 1 as infertile (which really surprised me given that daytime highs here the week that we were collecting eggs for incubation were only around 15 degrees). The others have shown nice growth and activity when we have candled them.

So here we are on day 20. No movement or sounds yet from the incubator, but we are waiting anxiously! Hopefully we'll get some action in the next day or two! We made our incubator out of one of my wife's old ferret cages, and used a lot of ideas from the homemade bator section on BYC. Because of that, I though I'd share here now that we're getting close. Here is a little pic of our setup:

I hear peeping but can't determine if it's from my 3 week olds, the birds outside or the bator.

Well- I got babies!

I woke up this morning to sent my oldest off to school and 1 baby serama was out and one pip on a RIR. Then I went back to bed for a little while (not wanting to watch bator TV) and I got up and there was another serama baby. And like 5 other pips. Then I when out to feed and chickens and another serama was out. And then I took a shower and a barred silkie came out. It's been nuts! I have like 10 pips too! So I'll post again later.

I posted at 8:03 and had nothing not even any pips my daughter woke me up at 9:30 I had 4 chicks! This batch worked fast. Now I have 5 chicks and not sure how many pips. I hatched my tiny bannie egg Its about the size of a baby bird yeah me!!! been tryin to get one to hatch 4 awhile now.

Out of 14 eggs I have 9 chicks and at least 2 pips. The problem with cabinet incubators is you cannot get a very good view of what's going on inside. The nine are very active and hop over to the window as soon as they see us coming over. It was hard getting the kids to go to school today, they just wanted to watch bator TV. The bard part is I am running a 102 temp, and cannot enjoy this as much as normal.

I have 5 babies now

, 4 hatched yesterday and the 5 just hatch a hour ago. Of course I have spent all day watching the last one and when I take a break it hatches. The other 4 were pecking at it through its little hole so I crushed up some food for them and put it down through a hole in the top of teh bator into the egg carton and then they ate it ane let the other be. But when it hatched it got some of the food on it so the others were pecking at it. I got my bathroom really humid and oped the bator and took out the 4 older babies, they are doing great with my other 3 day olds that were in a brooder in my bathroom. I plugged the bator back in and left it to recoop the humidity before I put it back in my kitchen. Now waiting to see if the last 3 will hatch, there are no signs though. I'll post some pics a little later.

Side note I took 23 eggs over to a neighbors house, he has a home made cabinet bator, they are on day 5 and all looking good!

I am so excited more babies!!!
