purplefrog.....my temp in my house is about the same and my humidity is at 65% in the bator and I don't have any condensation. I don't know, if you calibrated it, then it should be accurate.

I took the hygrometer out of the other incubator (octagon 20) which seems to be holding both temp & RH rock steady & quickly dropped it in the locked down bator. It now reads 45%, while the other one reads 61% AHHHHHH!!!!! I don't know what to do! The condensation is just by the corner where the water dish is.

Day 20... I really wanted to stay home today & stare at the incubator.....but I must teach. Maybe I'll be surprised by a little fuzz-butt when I get home.

Actually with my temp issues & the incubator being powered down when these eggs first were put in- I wouldn't be surprised if he was a day or two behind where I'm thinking he should be.....
It's true....waiting IS the hardest part!!!!!

Hang in there, prncssprplfrog! It's been 23 days now for my duck eggs, and the waiting can drive you insane! I have to spend the day here on BYC just to keep myself away from the 'bator and keep my hands off the eggs!

All 4 of the duck eggs from my flock look great (well, actually, you can't see anything at all in them, just the air cell and BLACK, they're so stuffed in there) and they go into lockdown late this weekend, and should hatch on Tuesday!

I got an e-mail from the person I'm getting my newest batch of Bantam Cochin eggs from and she's going to hold off, collect eggs for the next few days, and ship them to me on Saturday, to arrive first thing on Monday - SO, they won't be due until 4/20. That gives me a whole week without any hatches due in April to get my new Holderreads ducklings settled in.

How's it going with the baby quail, fordmommy?

The 2 baby quail are doing fine. But man-o-man is that little boy noicy when he's lonely. He searches for me sometimes. Just wants to be held. But I don't give in. I just let him to go back to sleep.

Usually he will. It's like he likes to know you are there. I call him Peanut and my mom named his sister Pixsy. I'm assuming he's a boy because the boys are the ones that sing and the girls do not.

Aww- I want duckies!!! Do you have to have a pond to have ducks.......I've been trying to find a way to dig a pond on our property for a while........It certainly would be justification for one.

I know they need a clean water source right?

Our old property had 2 ponds - but that was before we had ducks, and now we live in the middle of the woods, surrounded by mature oaks, and no ponds.

Even if we did have a pond here, I don't think I'd let the ducks have access to it - they're terribly messy and they'd dabble at the banks until they eroded away and made the pond into a stinky, muddy puddle. Each of my duck pens has a plastic kiddie pool in it - each one gets dumped out every evening, and refilled every morning; they're easy to keep clean.

If you're serious about getting ducks, I have plenty of eggs I could send you!
