new2chooks Those are some cute babies too! Some kinda look like my babies. But they are different breeds. I wish they wouldn't change their feathering. I just love them like this.

Day 26 for my mutt duck eggs - I went into lockdown last night!

As I was setting them in the egg carton for hatching, I swore I saw one of the eggs move, so I grabbed my flashlight and candled through the top of the egg, down into the air cell and I HAVE INTERNAL PIPS in all 4 eggs!

My water channels are drying up about every 12 hours, so I had to open it up and add water again this morning and I did another quick candling through the top of the shell and they're all moving around in there and I could see one of them pecking at the side of the shell!

I'm going to have ducklings in the next 12 - 36 hours!

I wasn't planning on keeping these guys, and I just heard from my aunt that her friend "Farmer Dave" wants to know what I have right now for trading! He has all sorts of species/varieties of birds, so I can't wait to see what he's willing to trade for these guys! (Unless any of you want to come get them this weekend

EDIT - And the air cells in the Bantam Cochin eggs are looking much better! I think giving them that 2-Day humidity boost really helped! I've reduced the humidity back down to 50% now, and I'm keeping a close eye on them. Another week and they'll be in lockdown too!

Another EDIT: Oh, and the 4 Welsh Harlequin duck eggs look great! They've been in the 'bator 1 week today!

I wish there was an easier way to add water to the octagon 20. Are you leaving yours in there to hatch- it doesn't look like there is enough room for them to hatch out.

Good Luck with your duckies!

The 4 eggs that are in lockdown are in their own Octagon 20 (I have a pair of them now!) - I moved the Welsh Harlequin eggs in with the Cochin eggs temporarily while these guys hatch.

So, right now I have:
- 4 mutt eggs in lockdown in incubator #1
- 8 Bantam Cochin eggs and 4 Welsh Harlequin eggs in incubator #2

And my next batch of 8+ Cochin eggs should arrive tomorrow morning! There's still plenty of space in incubator #2, and the current batch of Cochin eggs will be moving to incubator #1 as soon as the mutt ducklings are done hatching and I get it all cleaned out and ready for the next hatch!

Oh boy - now my head hurts!

Edited to add: Adding water to the 'bator is a pain, but I've found that the humidity bounces right back to where it's supposed to be 5-10 minutes after closing it back up - that's one of the reasons I like the relatively small size of the Octagon 20.

Edited again to add: I had to go grab something out of the bedroom a few minutes ago, and when I walked in a duckling peeped at me! No external pips yet, but it's still early (I'm surprised, because my temps have been right on) and I'm not expecting any ducklings until tomorrow at the earliest.

They're hatching NOW! The two eggs in the front are zipping, and I can hear the two in the back peeping, and they've probably pipped at the far side of the egg, but the incubator's up against a wall and I can't see them yet.

I'll have pictures later today!
