I set eggs 2/27/10 ** DUE 3/20th-3/21st** WE"RE HATCHING!!!!

Annarie, I love to talk chicken myself. Some people think I'm crazy for it.

Those eggs I got from BCC.....I got 5 BLRW and ALL are developing.

But the 4 GL I got, did nothing. I cracked them open and they weren't even fertile.
hmm.png
So I'll have BCC check hers when she gets back from Florida. It should be today some time. But if hers are duds too, she'll have toget in touch with the seller. And the seller sent extras of those because the BLRW weren't laying like they were supposed to, so she just sent what she had. That was the 5. I really hope those hatch. That's my project. BLRW.

I'm so glad they're developing for you!

Too bad about the infertile ones though.

I have a new picture of the ducklings (I should really do something about all that dog hair

)- you can definately see the sex-linked color difference between the light-colored girls and the dark-colored boy now - and look at how much smaller he is than his sister! He's doing well though - he's eating and drinking and sleeping a lot. I tried putting him back in with his sisters last night and he followed them around, until one of them sort of trampled him into the lip of the waterer, and I took him back out.

My aunt just lost two Muscovies (one died, the other was lonely and flew away

) and she came over to see the little stinkers yesterday evening. She wants to take the little fella and one of his sisters once they're old enough to live outside!

That means two of them are still up for grabs!

And I'm starting to get excited about batch #1 of Cochin eggs, due on Monday. I've read that Bantams occasionally hatch a bit early, around Days 19 - 20, and they're on Day 18! They look pretty good. One of them looks a little questionable - sort of a fuzzy outline (but, last time I almost tossed one that I thought was a late quitter, it was the first to pip, so I'm not touching it!). The rest look all full of chick, and they've been moved into incubator #1 for the hatch!

Happy Easter!

It's Day 20 for my first batch of Bantam Cochin eggs!

I broke down and bought the Brinsea Spot Check thermometer last week after my ducklings hatched a wee bit early, and I forgot to mention that it arrived the same day my "scrambled" batch of Cochin eggs came. According to the Spot check, the temperature was a near-perfect 99.6 in incubator #1, but it was a bit high at 100.3 in incubator #2. Not too shabby, since the thermometers I was using in both 'bators are $6 cheapies. The duck eggs were in incubator #1 throughout the entire incubation period, so I guess high temps had nothing to do with hatching a day or so early.

Anywho, there's no pips yet in the Cochin eggs as of this morning, the humidity was at 70% BUT the water channels were down to about 1/4 full. I figured I'd be safer re-filling them now, before any of the eggs had pipped, rather that waiting for the channels to run dry and having to open the 'bator once the eggs had pipped and had exposed membrane, since the water channels have needed to be refilled every morning since lockdown started on Friday. SO, I opened it up quickly, refilled the water channels - and, of course, I took a quick peek into the air cells with the flashlight, since the 'bator was opened anyways.

At least 5 of the 8 eggs for sure have internal pips already! I'll finally have the Columbian Bantam Cochins I've been coveting for so long - probably starting tomorrow!

Hi all,
I haven't seen them yet but my friend said that all the eggs I gave him hatched! I thought I gave him either 21 or 22 but he called and said that 23 out of 24 hatched! So I will be selling all theses babies since I have plenty now. I will post some pictures when I go pick them up tonight.

Happy easter everyone!

WOW! That's a great hatch rate (your eggs must be great, and your friend must be doing something right!) and a LOT of babies! Congrats - that's an awesome Easter present!

Now if only mine would start hatching. Last year, my Bantam Cochins pipped at exactly Day 21 (I set them at 10:00 a.m., and saw the first pips at 10:00 a.m. 21 days later), but they weren't out until around 6 p.m. - I set these guys at 9:30 a.m., so I'm hoping they'll start hatching tomorrow morning and be out by dinnertime!

I can't tell if they're peeping yet or not, because I can't hear them over the ducklings that are still in my room!

I finally have a pip in one of the Cochin eggs!

And I candled all the other eggs in incubator #2 that are in various stages of incubation.
I lost one of the Welsh Harlequin eggs sometime last week and had to toss it today.

I have three left that are moving around and look great, due on the 18th.

All 8 of my Indian Runner duck eggs from my pair are looking GREAT!

And, GUESS WHAT?! 6 of the 13 "scrambled" Cochin eggs are actually developing! 2 of which had detached air cells!

Looks like that batch won't be a total loss after all!

5 pips in the 8 Cochin eggs now - still no zipping; and I promise I haven't opened the incubator.

There's only about 1/4 inch of water left in the channels, so I'm just crossing my fingers that the humidity holds until they start really hatching and drying off.
