Hi all can I join too! I set 8 eggs on the 26Th and plan on setting another 9-12 today or tomorrow. They are all from my own chickens. I have a Buff Orpington rooster and in his flock is 2 Ameraucanas, 2 RIR and 1 is Orph/Amera. The first set of eggs are from them minus the mixed chicken, she just started laying this week!

I have a second flock not sure who all the hens are I just got them last week one is an Ameraucana and I think the rooster is a splash of some kind. I will have at least 1 egg from this flock in the next batch that I'm setting.

I candled on the 5Th day. My flash light wasn't powerful enough I couldn't see through the green eggs, the rest are brown. I couldn't see veins or movement but they were all dark. I'm going to see if my local co op has a better flash light that I can candle with. other wise it will be a waiting game.

I am so excited! The chicks that come from my Buff are always beautiful! This is my first time ever doing this!

Were those the ones from JamesA that the post office damaged to package?

No these are my bantam Ameraucana's from Cloverleaf

The ones from JamesA will be candled in two days...they are behind a bit. Can't wait to candle them to see how they do!

Thanks

I did start a thread (it's dropped back a few pages in the forum by now), with some new pictures I took last night - it turns out, the pictures I took myself came out better (mom doesn't want to hold the eggs - that's my department, and she can't seem to hold the camera steady - it's tough getting clear pictures in the dark!)

I'll be updating it tonight. I'm also compiling all the pictures in a big poster I'm creating in Microsoft Publisher that I'll post on my website for anyone to download when I'm all done - my financial aid wasn't processed in time for school this semester, and I have a LOT of time on my hands!

Hee are some of the progressive pictures so far - these were taken about 10 - 12 hours apart:

I should start getting veining in that big dark blob in the next day or two!

So cool, Annarie! I just can't get over that. I bought that flash light today from Menards. Actually I bought a couple different ones. (We go through them a lot with 2 kids who misplace them all the time anyway and a DH who takes them to the garage to never be seen again.

) Anyway. I'm not sure how well they are going to work for me. The chicken eggs are smaller and the light does not sit flat on the shell. We will see. I bought the same brand light with a smaller head on it. That one might work better for me.

Sparkelrose Glad to have you! And

I used the same flashlight with 14 bulbs for my Bantam Cochin eggs (they're pretty tiny!), and while it wasn't nearly as bright as this one, it was the same size and worked great if I cupped the egg in one hand and held the flashlight underneath with the other.

That was a sad hatch - my humidity was too high and I lost 1 of the three I went into lockdown with when he pipped internally. I heard a few weak peeps, and that was it, so I'm guessing he drowned.

Still, I got two from that hatch - both roosters! One of them hatched very "sticky", but now he's a big beauty who likes to attack people's shoelaces.

I'm working on my home-made hatcher this coming week (it has to be done by hatch time!), and I have some more Bantam Cochin eggs going into the incubator next week too! I've got the hatching bug bad!
