Oooh - fordmommy, you should have some eggs in lock-down right now, right?

I just candled the "scrambled" Cochin eggs that are on Day 9 right now - of the 6 that were developing, 1 quit, 2 look really questionable, and only three still look good.

Of the 13 eggs that went into the 'bator, I pulled 8 today that were all clear or had bloodrings.

I'm just so thankful that I have 8 healthy Cochin chicks from this weeks hatch - hopefully the three eggs that still look good will pull through and join these guys in a few weeks (excuse the mess they made - they may like to scratch their food everywhere, but it's nothing compared to the mess the 13 ducklings in the other brooder make!):

I'm going to "lock down" for most of the eggs tonight. My hatch dates are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Here's my plan. I'm "locking down" the eggs due Monday and Tuesday tonight. The 6 eggs due Thursday, I'm leaving in the turner until Monday. I'm taking out all the turner trays but one in the middle. It should work.

What cute babies. How many babies total so far due you have?

I still have two of the four ducklings that hatched last week that I'm raising for my aunt until they can live outside, I have 11 ducklings that came from Holderreads on Wednesday, and the 8 Cochin chicks that hatched Tuesday/Wednesday.

So, I've hatched 8 chicks and 4 ducklings so far this year, and currently have 8 chicks and 13 ducklings.
Which brings the total number of birds on the property right now to 29 ducks and 10 chickens.

I don't have anything else hatching for a full week now though - the next hatch dates are the 18th, the 22nd, and the 28th.

Oh - and I should have BYC April Egg Swap eggs coming in a few weeks.

Oooh - those Partridge Cochin/Dark Brahma cross chicks sound neat! My Welsh Harlequin duck eggs go into lock-down the same day yours should be hatching! You'd better post pictures! This thread has a few good hatches left in it yet!

It looks like my two "wrong colored" Cochin chicks are going to be Partridge, and I have one that looks like it's going to be solid White! All of the rest have perfect little Black/White wing feathers coming in already, so they're all actually Columbians! I got some new pictures of the parent birds from the seller today, and I hope these guys grow up to look like their mommies and daddies! The parent birds have a lot of variance in the amount of black they have one them, but they're all gorgeous, and these chicks are going to be a great start to my Columbian project for next year!

I really need to stay focused & NOT get more eggs.... I just have to keep telling myself that! I've been trolling around the egg BST & ebay, looking at ducks & cochin eggs. I really want lemon blues & milli Fleur cochins, but will have to wait until next year. I am going to redesign & rebuild my coop over spring break, which will give me more room for the birds I have now.

I will post pics& I have more pics of the BCM chicks that are camping out in my bedroom. They're a week old today & got new digs: a 45 gallon rubber made tub! Maybe that will keep them for a while!

I'm really worried about most of my shipped bantam cochin eggs- as the air cells in them seam to be VERY large & or very mis-shapen! I've kept humidity between 40-49% throughout incubation. I'm wondering if it just seems to be the shipped bantam eggs that do this....
