There shouldn't be a 14-day limit for tetracycline (doxycycline is given up to 45 days for Chlamydia). It might just be a guideline since you would see results after 14 days if it was working. It's true even of Chlamydia but then you have to continue for at least 21 days to make sure it's eliminated.
Tetracyclines also work on Mycoplasma but Mycoplasma shouldn't cause diarrhea.
At this point you could continue to give another week of tetracycline, try another antibiotic, or wait and see. If you tried another antibiotic, Ciprofloxacin/Baytril/enrofloxacin would be a good bet, especially if the joint is infected with salmonella.
