I don't live where there are poisonsou snakes now, just garters mostly, but I was raised in rattlesnake country. We had a hard fast rule, if it was in the yard where the little kids played it died, anywhere else, taken across the street to the big empty field and released. Even the big rattlers. We had several snake sticks for deal with them.

The ones that ided were never wasted. Skins, meat if it was big enough or into the neighbors pig trough minus the head.
