I was sitting here on the computer and looked out the window to see our coop and run. It is not covered so I have been letting them play during the day and bringing them inside at night. Anyways, I saw something fly over our fence and I just figured it was a dove or something. We have feeders in our backyard. then 2 huge crows/ravens landed on the top of our coop and looked down at my babies. I jumped up and let our german shepherd outside so he would scare them off. I haven't ever heard of crows attacking chickens but I wasn't about to take any chances. Should I be worried? Are they really dangerous?

could you cover the run. i would think one would feel safer about letting your chickens out into a run thats covered.? less stress on you? i know a few people here dont cover their run, not sure really why? i like the security of knowing my chickens are safe.

i have never heard of a crow attacking chickens. perhaps it was a hawk? they are similar in shape and look, until you get alot closer than notice its either a hawk or crow.
big difference.

Im 100% sure they were crows. I know my animals. We are planning on covering the run. Probably this weekend. I just didn't know if I should be worried about crows.

I've had crows try to come after my chicks here, so it doesn't surprise me.

Although they are good for keeping hawks away (they have chased a few off from circling my coops/runs) I can't stand them! They are sneaky and smart so watch them.

yes it was a raven. I thought crows and ravens were the same thing?? well they are locked up in the coop now. We are definitely covering the run this weekend

If you garden or have poultry crows are not your friend sure they run hawks off, but is so they can have chick/eggs for themselves. They are the main predator in a lot of places for game bird chicks. crows are under Migratory bird laws so read up on the law in you area befere you blast them

how big are your chickens? I have witnessed crows carrying off baby ducks, so a little chick would be no different. I would put some kind of top on the pen or shoot some crows.
