Last night we were working on the new run and coop . I have an extention cord running from my carport to the coop for their light . Well it was almost dark when we went in last night and I forgot to go out and plug it back in, so I am wondering if they are gonna stiop laying? We are now getting 14 hours of daylight but they are used to the light in their coop . What do you think did I mess them up ? Should I turn it back on or leave it off? Any input would be nice?

if you are getting 14 hours of day light I can't figure out why you had another light in their coop. Are there no windows for the coop and that's why you had lights? They don't need lights in their coop at night when they are roosting. If they have 14 hours of day light then that's what they need for maximum laying time. In Indiana we are getting about 12 hours of light now. I have a light in their coop that's on a timer that turns on at 5:30 a.m. and off at 8:00 a.m. so that I can get my chickens their 14 hours of light. I'll be turning off the light in about a month or so.

Yeah, seriously, save the electricity!

Even here, with only 11.5 hours, mine have picked up the pace to the point where a light isn't really worth it.

I had a light in their coop cause just now are we getting 14 hours of light a day we hadn't been till about three weeks ago , I don't have a timer so I just put a small light in their coop about three months ago and about 10 days after I put it in their they started laying. We don't have window's in their coop just the small area we go in and out at which is about one foot wide and three feet tall this is why we are building them a new coop. Should I leave the light out ? Should they keep laying since we have 14 hrs of light naturally now?

Hmm... I never had a light on this winter and still got some eggs. Not as much as I do now, but was getting 5-10 a day out of 20 girls. Now at 19 girls I am getting 13- 16.

Im in North Alabama - I used no lights in the winter months and with 10 hens we were still getting about 5-6 eggs daily. I have never kept my laying stock under any kind of lights - I just let nature do its thing

I have gotten 8 eggs today which is the usual on a bad day . I get 12-13 every other day or so , but the real test is to see how many I get tomorrow as to know whether or not the light being off for one night is gonna mess them up, I read on here somewhere that if you just stop lighting their coop sudenly they will stop laying cold turkey so to speak, that is what I am worried about.
