I think I figured out chicken math!

My chicken math tends to involve integration and imaginary numbers.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Here is my chicken math:

Wanted a backyard flock so with permission of wife,I got 6 different kinds of chickens to start.
6 became 5 roos and one hen….not a good start

3 roos went to camp Kenmore, had to replace, and so got 6 pullets to replace 3 roos

Had to go to feed store for starter crumbles, saw amber links, and got 6

Two roos and one hen wasn’t enough for an adult flock, went to auction bought 6 hens and was given a pair of bantams

Went to feed store for meds for auction birds, saw Cornish, bought a baker’s dozen

Saw on craigslist free laying hens, got 20

Went to Lowes for lumber to make coop, found pallets outside feed store, went in and bought 6 more amber links because I didn’t want them to seem I was lurking.

Hens were laying and eggs were fertile, went to feed store for incubator, bought 8 more Cornish

Found out I had American games and are known for broodiness, found 2 game hens on 18 eggs each!

So permission chickens were: 6

Non-permission =103

6-103 = -97

So I have minus 97 chickens

Next year I need permission to buy 97 chicks. If I don’t I can never catch up.

Mine goes like this:

Wanted 4 hens. Got 4 chicks.

Spent a year hatching and selling and I don't know what the heck happened, but now I have 10 chickens and more eggs in the incubator. Everything in between is a blur. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Thank you for this post. I will share it with my DH. He doesn't seem to understand why I need more chickens, but he's just adding incorrectly, and I really need more.

Anyway, this is highly educational material and I'm certain he'll understand after reading this why I have more eggs in the incubator and am looking for more silkies!

Ok so I am trying to figure this math out.

I wanted BA's I saw them and got 2
DH chose 4 so those don't count
I wanted SLW so I called about some
all gone but I get 1 splash hamburg, 1 GLW, 1 BO and another EE (DH chose the BO, the EE and the GLW so those don't count)

so
2 + 4= 2 + 4 = 3
OMG I need some chickens.
No one is laying so that means
3 - 3 = 0

I have no chickens. SIGH

My head hurts.

My chicken/flock math:
My numbers are small, but I am using the new algebra, so I think it leaves ample opportunity for negative addition.

I wanted 4 laying hens.
Had to buy 6 at the swap.
All the chickens come to me when I call "Chicken-Oh-Chicken" but don't even know they have individual names. They are ONE pet.

Wanted 2 ducks for baking eggs. Decided I should keep a drake since Anconas are in such trouble.
Got 2 drakes and a hen from the breeder, had to get 2 more ducks from another breeder.
The ducks have not learned their individual names either, and only come when I call "Quackers". They are also ONE pet.

So, I only have 2 in my flock.
At least this is what I tell my honey. He is not as good at the new math as I am.

My question is, next spring, should I add a third animal to my flock? I think so. Should I get geese (plus one) or turkeys (plus one)? What would you all do? I plan to add a few meat birds, but they won't count at all, since I already have chickens.
