I have 1 pair of midget whites. I asked this question a month or so ago -how soon can I expect an egg? They we hatched out in late April-everyone said in the Spring of 2011.. NOPE!!! got my first egg today. At first I was like Holy cow who laid this gorgeous egg?? tanish white with tons of reddish browns speckles-heavy speckles. a tiny bit of blood on it too. it was like an acorn-real pretty just sitting in fridge! Does this mean she will lay through Winter? these are my first turkeys so I am clueless

Congrats!!!

Where did you find the egg? My three bourbon red girls have been checking out the chicken's nest boxes, but don't quite fit. I figure it is just curiosity and not because they're feeling any urges. First, they were born in May. Second, they COMPLETELY ignore our male midget white who spends his entire day displaying, all for naught.

SO,, what size nest box should I be constructing for them???

Here's another question...I've NEVER owned turkeys before...Do they hatch or do you eat them? Okay, I'm really embarrassed asking this question!

I put mine in the incubator hoping that some will hatch...I don't know how long they will lay either I have Midget Whites too and I'm getting 1 egg every other day or two mine were hatched in late April they started the middle of October I read they need a 24"x24" lay box but I have 3 setting in a dog house but they get up and get out and then lay the egg right outside the house so it's better at first they just left them under the roost and they lay in the late afternoon early evening never before 12 so far...

I found the egg up about 6 ft on a nestled out hay bale:) The only thing that could fit her fat butt! LOL My midget white male I have seen him do the "deed" but I still dont know if they are fertile? Im not incubating any turkey eggs until Spring so who knows but oooh so pretty

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would be suprised if they will lay thru the winter for you but you never know. Ours start laying in Jan but we are further sound. The blood on the egg is common in Midgets since they lay such a large egg for their size.

yah it was a little egg for sure-I know they will get bigger in the next couple weeks if she decides to keep laying:) But it was like no other egg I have gotten in 3 years so I KNEW it had to be hers-Ill take a photo later and post it so you can see and tell me if Im tweaking over a fancy newbie chicken laying...LOL

One of my hens has been disappearing lately... I've been wondering if I have a hidden nest somewhere. I should probably go hunting.
