I'll just add my 2 cents by agreeing with what everyone else has said. You have to be patient and wait for them to get relaxed and adjusted to their surroundings. I got two bantam cochins roughly two weeks ago from a bird auction ( risky I know, but I had an experienced chicken keeper with me) and one of them just laid my first egg this morning. Keep clean water, food, and a clean coop and they will be ok. One thing that I did after the first week of owning them was mixing store bought egg shells in their layer feed and adding 4 tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar in their PLASTIC gallon waterer. A combination of that and adding a 10'x10' run for more space and they mellowed out pretty quickly. They also like mealworms and crickets as treats! I made them as happy as I could and it's starting to pay off.
