A story:
A friend of my dad was having crops out of his garden missing. He figured it was deer and wanted to see how big. So he set up a motion sensor camera.
Low and behold! the culpert was a guy who just happened to stop by when they weren't home and help himself to the garden!!!! I couldn't believe someone would do that.
And you have someone taking chickens....that is not right! Are you getting police documentation?
I had someone coming over during the day and taking my eggs. I was working the graveyard shift so I would sleep during the day. When I woke up in the evenings I would go out and collect the eggs. For days I went out to collect the eggs and there were no eggs. I set up a security camera and caught the person taking my eggs. I told her not to touch any more of my eggs. Recently a neighbor was stealing money out of my egg jar and also helping himself to eggs and my produce. Again I set up a camera and recorded him stealing. The guy came up one day and I happened to see him. I confronted him and told him to stay off my property and that I had recorded him taking some money and sticking it in his sock on his right foot and if he came on my property I would turn the video over to the police department. I haven't seen him since.
Hot wires work well, my dad had someone messing with his race car in the barn and he hooked it up to the door handle
Barbed wire works too. What ever you do make sure you have no tresspassing signs on your property and on your coop. I have a neighbor who lives in front of me whos family lives behind me and they were walking thru my field to go back and forth. I was told to put up signs in case someone got hurt they couldnt come after me.
I cant do anything that may hurt my children... although the digging trenches, ink boobie traps ect all sound fun but if one my kids were to get caught up in it by accident it would be devastating.
I need to do something less dangerous..... and guns...shotting "it" is not an option because firearms are NOT allowed in my house or on my property. I understand there is a culture difference between myself and a lot of BYC'ers but there is no changing my mind on the no guns policy. then only thing I am shooting is video and I hope its funny cause I will post it on youtube...lol
The camera is by far the best Idea, You can't injure people with traps but you can use wet paint. Black or brown paint or roofing tar at the entrance is sure to make a real mess, especially if the culprit make a get away in a car.
We had people stealing items from our vehicles, the last thing they stole was 5Lbs. of honey bee's "accidentally" left in a old tool box over night.
