This morning one of my loose hens was standing on a downed tree branch, feathers all puffed up and tail spread, just looking royally pissed off. When I put out fresh food (feeder ran out over night), she stayed puffed up and ate quickly, qorked at all the other chickens she passed, ran over to the water (that hadnt been empty) and gulped it down. A gust of wind blew leaves at her and she ran off, and she was foraging farther away, not with any of the rest of the flock. I was stalking her but I didnt want to drive her farther from the nest so I backed off and then lost track of her. I also may have found a broody poop - no pic because my dog ate it. Ew.

I couldn't find the nest but I'll stalk her tomorrow morning and see what happens.

I'm honestly not sure if shes one of the pullets or not so who knows what quality this nest will be. Another hen went off and hatched 2 eggs a month or so ago... I never found the nest so I dunno how many she sat.

IS your place big?
Honestly the main thing is just that theres a fair amount of trees, bushes, storage sheds, fallen trees, fallen fences, etc etc etc that would be impossible to thoroughly search for a nest. I think her nest may be in the oak tree that fell recently.

And the previous hen's nest was definitely in the horse pasture.
