I think I have a mature rooster....HELP

well my family and I were sitting there watching our crew, and all of a sudden my lady was making this clucking noise I had never heard before. So I ask my son(5years old) what was that? He says mom "big pimpy"(our roo) was standing on mama with his feathers out..My husband and I bust out laughing but sad we missed it..Does it sound like they were mating? They are about 3-4 months old...No eggs so far either.


Any help would be great, I feel stupid but I really dont know much about this whole chicken mating stuff..lol

Yes.. sounds like mating. The cluck was to attract the hen, then the rooster does his little 'dance' for her and if she submits, he will mount her. Can be as quick as 4-6 seconds

Ahh.. well then the hen was probably just complaining or something..

mine will do that sometimes too.

Might be too young at 3-4 months for actual mating, probably won't have fertile eggs for awhile yet, but they are practicing!!
