Hi all,
I have 4 speckled Sussex chickens that were all supposed to be pullets. They are 8 weeks now. I'm pretty certain one may be a roo though. The comb is much larger than the other 3 and there is a definite wattle. What do you think?

Thanks in advance

That one does look like a Roo. In a few more weeks he will be crowing if a roo

Thank you for your reply. I am new here and to chickens. My speckled Sussex are my first 4. Got them on 3.2 (at 1-2 days old). I got 4 silver laced Wyandottes on 3.16 (also at 1-2 days old). Then I decided I wanted to try hatching eggs so I got 2 blue laced red Wyandottes and 2 more silver laced Wyandottes. 3 of the 4 eggs (2 BLW and 1 SLW) were fertile and all hatched. Chicken math is REAL!!! Lol
I'm ok with one roo, but probably not wise to keep 2-3 roos. Lol.

Where did you get your eggs for hatching? I just ordered chicks from Cackle Hatchery and I saw on their site you can order eggs ! That’s so cool

I got them from Brinkhaven Acres. They were very well packaged. Only thing I didn't know about until about a week after setting was that shipped eggs tend to have saddled or detached air sacs. I swear I checked them almost daily for signs of life because I was afraid of losing them. I was so glad when they all hatched so I could stop worrying as much. Once I learned about the air sacs for shipped eggs I did put them in the incubator air sac up and only slightly rotated them several times a day. I was super slow when I did move them so I wouldn't jostle them too much. Despite it all though, I have 3 healthy almost 1 month old chicks. It was a great experience and I will be doing it again after these 11 have grown a bit and I get a bigger run. I may have lost my mind with my chicken math. I don't eat many eggs (love them but they give me horrible heartburn) and I'm single with adult children that live elsewhere. What in the world am I going to do with all these eggs?! Lol. I have very nice neighbors and just moved to Florida at the end of January so I will likely be giving most of them away. My youngest also sent me an article she found about water glassing eggs for storing so I will be giving that a try as well. Still have 2-3 more months before I need to think about eggs anyway 😂

thats incredible! How much was an incubator? I’d LOVE to try that. It’s only me and my husband at home now. but we eat 6-8 eggs every day! One of our daughters lives in Riverview south east of Tampa!

I actually bought a very cheap incubator on Amazon. It was only $37 but had an automatic turner and thermometer. Didn't need the turner after all since I manually did it after reading about the air sacs. The thermometer didn't seem to be correct and was also in Celsius (not able to give readings in Fahrenheit). I ended up also getting a thermometer/hygrometer that was bluetooth so I could keep an eye on it from anywhere in the house at any time from my phone with their app. When I hatch again I plan on getting a better incubator but for my first try it all worked out perfectly. Beginners luck I'm sure, but I'll take it!!

I'd have to say your one is a cockerel and the other three look like pullets.
