I think I have a TSC "oops" rooster (Barred Rock)

Top is cockerel. Bottom is a pullet.

Might not have been a tsc oops as even sexed pullets from hatchery are 90 to 95 percent guaranteed. The only 100 percent would be sexlinks.
Well to be honest we asked for a few that had distinct markings so we could tell them apart. "Pecky" had the most diffuse white spot on his head and his legs were lighter. These are apparently telltale cockerel traits that we specifically requested - so yes, the "oops" is due to my own ignorance - mostly.

Barred means lines basically...most noticeable on the wings. The barred gene is a gene that lightens the feathers. While the females have the gen they only get one gene so they stay darker than the males. Definitely an opps!

We got an accidental brown leghorn rooster last year, and he turned into a gorgeous adult. Unfortunately a fox or raccoon got him later on, but anyway, my son who chose the chick, was disappointed that he didn’t get the expected hen, but felt much better when I told him if someone else had ended up with the rooster they might not have let it grow up and have a happy life.

So I’m the end we were happy to have had the chance to give him a good home. Hope you enjoy your roo!

We bought sexed barred rock chicks from TSC and they are now four weeks old. I didn't bother to find out about sexing barred rock chicks beforehand but it seems there are several tell tale signs even when they are a day old that we didn't check. These traits are even more pronounced now:
- his (I'll stick with the masculine pronoun) comb is more pronounced than his flock mates
- he pecks at our hands when we try to pick him up
- the white spot on his head is more diffuse
- he has lighter legs
- his feathering is lighter

All are apparently tell-tale signs of a rooster. In case of any doubt here is some photographic evidence. The top one is "Pecky" and the bottom is, I assume, a pullet. She wasn't cooperative to show off her legs but they have dark markings down the front.

So is this beyond all doubt a roo that we have?

I definitely believe you have a roo!

Thanks, I'm excited :)

Without a pullet to compare to you can still usually tell once you've seen the differences. A male looks much lighter than a pullet ever does.
looking at these two I have a pullet. She also has attitude but isnt that a barred rock thing ? hahaa

That is a nice way of looking at it. The rest of the family is excited about the prospect of a cockerel so I'm sure it will be a good experience.
