I think I know the answer to this but is there a quiet female duck?

Muscovy hens can quack they just don't generally do it... i have one that can honk like a bike horn but that is only when she's scared they just don't walk around randomly 'quacking' .

My welsh harlequin females are so quite and dainty. I don't even know their on the place. I check them every night just to make sure their still there. The pekin on the other hand make more noise than my geese. So do my runners.

Either. I let the chickens free range during during the day during the summer. I could leave the ducks in the pen if necessary.

I think what kevin meant by exotics are the wild and migratory type ducks. This is mainly what I keep and rest assured All of them are quiet. Matter of fact I cant think of any loud ones off the top of my head. Maybe the tree ducks whistling. But no loud quacking with this whole bunch. Not counting a wild mallard of course

Especially compared to domestics.

That's what I thought he meant, I was just hoping he would mention one I didn't know. I've read that the ones you mentioned are always quit flighty. And I would think they would have strong migratory instinct. They would have to be kept entirely cooped right?

If you spend time with them they become real tame. They will fly away as with most ducks if you clipped or pinioned their wings they wont. But I personally prefer full flight birds for all my ducks. Ive kept lots of Indian runners and they all have been fairly quiet This is about the smallest quiet domestic I know

My one runner barely makes a peep. Except when she gets excited or I go out to check on them. But even then, she's not very loud. Runners in general can be very loud at times though. If you want a quiet duck DO NOT get buff ducks! Haha! My Blue Swedish aren't too bad either, actually they are quieter then my runner girl.
