I think I"m loosing another chick :(

How are the other birds? Are there any other symptoms, no matter how subtle? You should let MPC know that you lost one so soon. They may replace it.

sigh.. she is going down hill fast.. Droopy wings, labored breathing, a clicking sound as she rapidly breathes. The other chicks seem fine.. but so did this one and my first loss.. I'll be shocked if she is alive by afternoon..

My fear is that I'm loosing the whole batch.. gosh darn it!

I'm not sure what it is....maybe you should build a separate box for her(with food/water and heat) so she won't get the others sick(if she is sick) That might have happened with the other one that died. the one that died may have been the only one with a disease, but then it spread to her. So if i were you, i would put her in a warm safe box like the other one, clean the one that has all the other chicks in it, and see what happens. Time will tell....(i'm no expert but that sounds like the one thing I would do) Or you could bring her to the vet?

I hope she does OK, and if not, then I hope nothing happens to the others!

Hang in there!

Bedding: large pine shavings.. not powdery or fine.

They have all been together for a week.. if one is sick they probably have all been exposed..

I went and got broad spectrum abx and electrolytes at the feed store.. I'm not taking the chick to the vet clinic.. it would be over $100 to just walk in the door...I know that might sound harsh.. but I can't afford to spend that type of $ on an $8 chick..

That's not harsh at all. It's part of the process for a lot of folks. I'm disinclined to think it's contagious, unless they've been outside or you've been somewhere else chickens are kept. It's unlikely that the hatchery has had any major outbreaks of disease. I'd look more toward environmental stressors or possibly shipping stress. Has the bedding been dampened at any point? What you're describing sounds a lot like aspergillosis, which is a respiratory infection caused by mold.

I don't want to sound too positive.. but the little chick is still alive.. looking.. perhaps.. slightly less droopy. She is drinking a lot.. and moving around the brooder..

We'll see.. I've never had a chick sick before.. nor had chick losses.. so I've no idea if she'll make it or not..

Sometimes chicks die for no reason. Mail ordering puts a lot of stress on them. Just keep an eye on the rest of them they should be ok.
