My little ducklings needed a full scrub out of their brooder, so I thought it would be good to let the kids watch them in the tub while hubby and I cleaned everything out real quick (kids are 15 and 18, and fully capable). Well, we flew through it, but even so, when we got them out they were completely saturated and shivering. All four of us grabbed towels and hubby and I took two each, each kid had one, and we dried them as quickly as humanly possible and got them back in under their heat light. They are fluffy and seem happy now (it's been about 30 minutes since we got them out of the tub) but I am TERRIFIED that I let them get waterlogged. Did I? What do I do now? Will they be okay? What do I need to watch for? They are presumably 3 Pekin and 3 Khakis who are 6 days old for those of you who haven't seen my previous thread. @MasterOfClucker @Knighstar679 @Duck mommy 2019 @Miss Lydia (tagging the names I can remember who have helped me immensely so far, please don't take offense if you've helped and I missed you, I'm panicking)

if they seem fine now, they probably are. just make sure that they are eating, drinking, and pooping. watch for if they look lethargic or aren’t as energetic as usual. also, next time they swim put something in the water that they can use to rest when tired

Thank you! They are eating, drinking, preening and chirping happily. At least a couple have pooped so far.

Sounds like they got waterlogged but with your swift actions they are ok! Good job.

Thank you! I got them dry as fast as possible. I can't remember the last time I was so scared!

Maybe try warmer water and or wait until they’re older.
Thank you! They are very fluffy! It was warm water, and we had an upside down pot in there they could get on if they needed a rest, but they wouldn't get on it.

The ducklings will be fine now that they are dry and warm. Keep an eye on them but all should be OK.

Thank you! I'm watching them like my life depends on it. I can't believe I did that. I severely underestimated how fast I could scrub their house :hit

Get them under some heat and they will be fine, I've had broodies take their day-olds into freezing creeks and they survived. Ducks are tough birds.

don't beat yourself up about it:hugs. if the duckling are fine now than you did the right thing👍

Thank you. They really do seem back to normal now. I think they're okay. Though I'll probably still get up and check on them in the middle of the night!

They are under some heat, thank you. Oh wow, that makes me feel better, I'm not the only duck mama who makes mistakes! Thank you so much!

I really, truly, appreciate how helpful and kind everyone on this forum has been. Thank you all!
