I also started giving them things while they were still in the brooder, two -three weeks (with grit). They would get half their food on a laid open paper bag, once they hunted and pecked for that they got the rest of the food in a bowl. Then I just tossed the now poopy bag in the compost. I also would hang some of the greens from the top of the brooder. I figured out that it had to be a curiosity before they would eat it. The first couple times I just threw greens in they just stood on them and looked confused. When they had to pull at them out of curiosity I think they "accidentally" ate some in the process and said "Hey these are good".
