If you're planning to help, I wouldn't wait any longer. I've had to help a few, and those who waited longer had a tougher recovery.
Run a hot shower to steam the bathroom, fill the sink with warm water, and ready some q-tip and cotton balls. Take it out and carry it in a warm washcloth. Use tweezers to "pip" the shell, but do not break the membrane just beneath it. Pinch bits of shell with the tweezers around the egg. Use a q-tip or cotton balls to moisten the membrane, and then tear the membrane and remove the top of the shell. If there is blood, stop and put the chick back in the incubator. If the chick needs more help, gently turn the shell to slide it into your hand. If it is still attached by the umbilical cord, don't force it out. It helps to have another person with you douse just the body with warm water, not the head. Use q-tips to wipe the gunk off of its body. Feed it some water with Sav-a-Chick if you have it before returning it to the incubator.
I'm not an expert, but this is what was recommended to me and it worked out well. Good luck.
