I think I'm addicted to candling!

Like AnniesEggFarm I couldn't help myself and candeled my eggs last night (which was Day 4) to see any signs of life. Am I the only one who can clearly see an embryo and veins on day 4 for every egg? Now I'm concerned that I have the heat too high and they're developing too quickly! This is only my first hatch so I have nothing to compare it to, but this is what they look like (I drew this picture for some online friends to show them what I've been up to, lol).

It's early. Give it til day 14 then cull if there is absolutely nothing inside. I had alot of eggs that went from little or nothing on day 6, to dancing embryos on day 14 (yesterday). Hope this helps.

Hello fellow candling addicts!

I too could see things in some of my eggs like the drawing above. But in others, coudn't see anything. I have a variety of eggs, some are reeally dark and the green one is very thick shelled. My daughter says she can see things in there but I cannot.

I have a couple that are real jumping beans and a few that are real sluggish but over all I think everyone looks great! (Like I would know, it's my first hatch

Here's to continued success

I am so glad I am not alone with this addiction. I read somewhere that is is bad to candle too often so I have been trying to limit my candling but it is really hard not to candle. I am definitely going to candle tonight.

I could see veining in one of my eggs on day 4 but the other eggs are too hard to see through, they are green and brown. The white egg is the one I can see the veining in. I am not even sure my eggs are fertile because my rooster to hen ratio is 1 to 32. I think I need another rooster.

no you are right on it should look like a spider on day 4 I just candeled mine and thats exactly what I saw, so you are doing good. Your picture is very accurate!! except there is a lot LESS veining. Also it depends on if the egg shell is white or brown or dark brown. White eggs are really to see on day 4. The darker the egg the harder to look into. We all do it so don't think you are the only one!! THERES AA, NA, SA, now there is CA (for candling anonymous )

Phew that's good to know, thanks for the reassurance! My sensor isn't exactly at the top of the eggs, so I've been kinda nervous about the temps and stuff. There really are a bunch of veins in there though. My eggs are from BBS bantam orps so they're pretty easy to see through with a bright LED flashlight, except for one egg, which is darker and speckled for some reason. It's so dark I can't really see veining, but I do see a mass where embryo is located for the other eggs so I think that one's doing good too.

Did you say jiving?

Yep, I said Jiving. I swear there's a dance party going on in there! They are really active. I marked the m to see if it's the same 2 that are always more active or if it changes.
