I think I'm broody...

Yay! 7 more cute babies Mmmaddie!! I tried logging into the hatch-cam a couple times but I ended up distracted waiting for the ad to end and the live cam to start (I'm having a really hard time staying in one spot for very long these days, lol... crazy busy time of year for me; collecting eggs, setting eggs, hatching, brooder cleaning, feeding atering etc non-stop, lol).

Your dark keet looks like a Pied Pearl Grey to me... it just has blended down. I'm still unclear why some keets hatch with blended down and some don't, but it's fairly common and they are usually Pied to some degree. I hatch lots of Pied blended down keets, in many colors (all fully-pearled colors). So your little guy should feather out like a normal Pied Pearl Grey keet in the next couple of weeks, and once the head fuzz is all gone around 8-10 wks you won't be able to tell he was ever any different than the others... tho some of my blended down keets mature to have pearling all the way up the neck, instead of the normal solid color bib.

Anyway, Congrats!

I'm pitifully behind on taking and posting pics of my recent keet hatches... I think I've missed taking pics of the last 2 batches and I've sold most of them already, lol.
So many baby birds, so little time,

lol.

Dang well I got a lot of pearls again this hatch - that baffles me! I want a VARIETY, which, of course, makes me want to buy more eggs and try again.. but I'm running out of summer pretty quickly, so unfortunately I don't think I can do any more hatching. Darn.

Well hopefully I can get some pictures of the crew today, they're still in the "sleepy" stage, so I'm trying to let them rest. :) I did get one either Coral Blue or maybe Lavender Pied. I can't tell, not enough experience with the keet colors. But I'm sure you'll be able to help when I post pictures. :)

Here they are!

You can see the (Lavender Pied?) one has something wrong with his eye. I think that it must have been something in utero because it just doesn't look symmetrical in size on both sides. Just seems like the left eyelid is smaller and closer to the beak. I'll see if I can get more pictures of it at some point. He was the last one to hatch, but he made it out all by himself and he seems to be doing okay. I saw him pecking at some foods, too, so that's good.

Oh and that dark one is up at the top, you can see how DARK he is compared to the Pearls.

So are all the others pearls? The one on the bottom right looks a little bit different color than the pearls but again, I can't tell.

Looks like a regular marked Pearl Grey to the left of the Pied Lavender.
A regular marked nicely Pied Pearl Grey to the right of the Pied Lavender.
A slightly Pied Pearl Grey with blended down on the right of the Pied Lavender (at least I think it's Pied a little bit since it has the blended down, I'd need to see him from the side to be positive... you will know when their flights starts coming in tho).
The 2 at the bottom look like another couple of Pied Pearl Greys with blended down, but
I'd need to see the one on the left better to be sure (so watch for white flights coming in). The one on the right is definitely Pied. (Both have the really dark color in the center of their head and blended down tho, so most likely they are both Pied Pearl Greys, even tho one is lighter).
And that dark little guy... is way way way dark! I thought maybe it was just the pics of him in your previous post making him look so dark, but you're right, he is almost BLACK. You may have something different there... the color and amount of blending (plus the amount of PIed they have) can all differ/vary quite a bit on my blended downed Pearl Greys, but seeing him now compared to your other keets with blended down, I have never seen one that dark, and marked so solid... so no clue what he might mature out as. He is a little bit Pied tho... hope you keep him so we get to watch him feather out!

Hopefully your Pied Lavender with the deformity makes it, I've had a few hatch out like that over the years, and they do OK at first, but end up not making it very long. Usually they have some other internal defect going on besides the obvious external issues.

Congrats, and that's not a bad bucket load, especially from shipped eggs!

SO MANY PEARLS. Pearls are pretty, too, don't get me wrong, but I love variety. Shoot. Well at least they're all probably split to something. Who knows.

He IS dark isn't he? I went and looked through the pictures from the ebay listing that I bought the eggs from, and none of their babies look like him, either. He's super cool. And I am keeping all of them. :) His name is Oswald Cobblepot (if you know Batman, you'll get the reference). It'd be very cool if he were a new mutation but I'm not expecting anything like that, so we'll just see how he turns out! :)

So I was right? It is a Pied Lavender? I hope he makes it, too, he's terribly sweet lol. He seems to be alright so far.

Thanks! I want to hatch more but I just can't. I've got 14 lovely little ones though, so I'm happy with that. I guess 7 is my number.

That 14 will quadruple next season, lol... you just wait.

And yes, you were right, Pied Lavender. A little cutie too, hope he/she makes it.

The lady I bought the eggs from thinks that Oswald is a Dark Bronze. She also wants to send me more eggs for the price of shipping because she thinks I should have gotten more than 7 to hatch... I really don't think I can say no... O_O
