I have 5 babys. 2 silkies one leg horn and two Rhode Island reds. All pullet. I have been coping them in the day and at night keeping them under the light. I had them outside in my yard to day too. I think it may to early for this. My silkies like the mulch. The already digging in it all crazy.. but I read today mabey this is bad for them.

Welcome to the BYC flock. How old are your chicks and how warm is your weather now? If they are feathered out and not shivering or cold outside, it must be warm enough for them - at least in the sun. If they seem to be getting cold take them back inside. They seem to be enjoying themselves

My silkies are over a week old and the red and leg horn are new baby's like 3 to 5 days old. It in the 80s here. When it sunny I take them into the coop I made them out side. Then as I get later I put them indoors with there light.i think 2maro I'll build them a box. I'm worried that I'm not keeping them warm. But they don't shiver. The run all over and lay out in the sun and mulch. The silkies get in the dirt and through it all over.

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! I too agree with drumstick diva if it's not too cold outside they should be fine for a short period. If they were with mother hen they would be outside with her and when they wanted to warm up they would go under her for a warm then come back out again. As long as they don't get chilled I'm sure they will enjoy having a good scratch about. I wouldn't leave them all day though with out the light one week and 3-5 days is a little young. They need to be able to decide if they need to warm up.

Good luck with your babies they are very cute. Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Your main concern would be predators. You MUST make sure you are with them or have them in a cage or something. As long as it is warm outside, then they can be out during the day. Just make sure they are safe and have food and water.

Cute chicks! They look happy!
