Open Contest Official BYC Contest—Post Your Best (Worst) Chicken Molt Pictures - 2025

Update: (Sorry I wasn't able to edit to add these to post #34)
Here's my beautifully pathetic-looking hen. She's still losing feathers while also half growing others.

Instead of a fuzzy turkey head, she is sporting a Mohawk and 5-o-clock shadow.

For some reason the undercarriage hasn't molted yet, so she appears to be wearing fluffy pants

No worries! That is perfectly fine!
I love the 'pants'.

Peaches!

She's a 3 year old sapphire olive egger. She molts much harder than the rest of my flock. My DH thought we had lost a chicken to a predator because of all the feathers in the yard 🤣
More photos from today of peaches.

She looks like she has some nice feathers coming in. Molting or not, she sure looks pretty!
Thanks- She’s at the end of molt- Her entire back was pin feathers 3 weeks ago (when I didn’t think to take photos)

Ah, I waited too late to edit! Here are more pics of Jolene being scruffy. She is CRANKY! IMG_20251003_152205970~2.jpg IMG_20251003_153223683~2.jpg IMG_20251003_152201733~2.jpg IMG_20251003_154148093~2.jpg

Watch out, Jazz Hands, she's gonna beat you up! 😂

Name: Chicken Nugget
Breed: Cinnamon Queen

I thought she was going to skip a molt completely last year. Lo and behold. She decided to drop everything during one of our coldest months, January (of this year)! Needless to say, she spent time inside on the -20 and -30 degree nights.View attachment 4225710View attachment 4225712View attachment 4225714View attachment 4225716View attachment 4225720View attachment 4225725View attachment 4225721View attachment 4225723View attachment 4225724

Oooooh whee! She's a contender!

My poor Mary. Her first proper moult, and besides scaring me with white feathers everywhere that looked like someone had been killed, bless her (her sisters are moulting too, but not as noticeably) she has lost her tail. Pooe girl.

Another tailless one, lol. Don't worry, you're not the first (even on this thread) that had a scare that something got a chicken by the feathers everywhere.
