First off,DH is the one "keeping me in check" on chick buying.Last week he said the 7 Banties I bought were IT this year.I said "Ok" but didn't REALLY mean I wasn't going to try ;)So here I am thinking my chicks in (all 3) brooders were it this year.Would you believe the DH calls me today and says "Hey,guess what the feature breed is this week?" I say" What?"...He says " Americaunas."I said...."and?..."He said "Well,Do ya want 'em?"
To which I replied "Uh...stupid question! Of course I do!"
Then he tells me he's leaving work early to pick me up so we can go get them.(Mind you I worked 12 hours last night and had had no sleep yet, and am currently at work now after an hours nap!)So I say..."What TSC are they at?"
AN HOUR AND A HALF AWAY!
An hour and a half away....hmmmm..BUT I've been trying to get EE's for 2 years now and keep missing them.....and I do have 2 sexed EE's coming in april....BUT....EE's....at TSC.Walk in,buy, got your fix, right?
Soooooooo....we drive the hour and a half after calling the store to make sure they had plenty left.We told the clerk we were coming a long way..."No problem...see ya soon" she says..
We get there(after a ten mile detour NOT on my GPS) ....and "OHH...sorry,we switched shifts and no one told me.We're sold out!"

She felt bad for us ,so she called another TSC and asked for him to "hold" some.
OK...so we go ANOTHER 20 miles...and get there at 6:45 pm.I said..."Want me to just run in quick?" "Sure,"he says. So off into the store myself and DD go.
Of course, I had to buy not 6....that seventh one was too cute to pass up

And....DH looked in the box so many times before he said "So we went that far to get 6 chicks!?" I said "Six?"...He looked at me and said "How many ARE in the box?" "Well, six, dear...but I got insurance!"

I'm so glad the second store wasn't sold out when you got there. So, how many chicks do you have altogether? Don't feel bad, I ordered 23 chicks from Ideal, and said that was it. Then I saw 5 SG chicks up for auction on here, and won the bid. Then I was in Rural King on Sat., looked in the chick bin, and there were 6 NN chicks----bought them. So, I ended up with more chicks this year than I was planning on, too.

You SOOO don't have a problem YET. Wait til you buy the cabinet incubator, fill it, then need another. It happens so quickly. Start looking for a support group now.

Problem? Problem? What problem? LOL Well, I'm keeping things a LITTLE balanced, as I'm selling a BO roo and his 3 ladies tomorrow-------I need their pen for my silkies. I do also have 2 broody hens sitting on 10-12 eggs (haven't really been able to count them), but I'm not sure they are fertile............will find out around the 17th.

I really DO have a problem, though. Why else would I be up at 5 a.m. to get on BYC when I have the week off work for Spring Break-------I could be sleeping in!!!!!!!!

(Can't help myself!)....do I need to mention the 4 MORE chicks coming in April (2 EE's and 2 AS) along with the 6 ducklings( 4 Ancona and 2 F&W Runners) and 18 turkey poults (including 3 different breeds)
ep.gif
and in between all that,I found 2 pekins and 2 mallards

This is of course not counting my flock of 31 chickens outside and 6 ducks!!
I do have to say though, 52 chicks are meat birds...so they'll be gone in the fall and all but 6 of the turkeys....but...sheesh! I need help!!

Congrats on winning the auction

My husband has told me no more chickens for awhile. I already have 8 standards and 4 bantams. We went to TSC and got 6 more bantams. My order of 13 more standards from Meyer hatchery came today. Plus I have 2 more standards and 4 more bantams coming the first week of May! Oh, and did I also mention that I talked him into letting my get 3 baby ducks that will be here probably tomorrow?
